There are some truly weird things happening in AI right now, but we’re also seeing some innovating solutions emerging as humans learn how to deploy AI bigger and better. These startups know that AI has the potential to solve some of the most vexing issues in the world, and they’re using it in ways that make us proud to be human.

Here are ten startups killing the AI game and getting us all excited for the future. Some work directly with AI solutions and some use the power of AI to disrupt long-standing industries. Let’s take a look.

1. Foghorn

Co-Founders: Mohan Reddy, T.M. Ravi

Foghorn Analytics is an early adopter of edge computing. The company’s platform is “cloud agnostic,” offering users deep integration with Google’s IoT core, as well as the possibility of adoption within AWS and Azure. It’s the only real edge solution available for the business market and delivers real-time analytics through massive data. It’s optimized for limited connectivity.

2. Zymergen

Co-Founders: Joshua Hoffman, Jed Dean

Zymergen uses machine learning and biology to create new chemical building blocks to be used in innovative materials and novel products. The company uses AI to analyze beyond the bounds of human intuition in the search for novel new materials to replace things like petrochemicals and construction materials. Access to molecular diversity could allow the company to leverage new innovations to revolutionize industries in spaces such as agriculture and pharmaceuticals.

3. Preferred Networks

Co-Founders: Toro Nishikawa, Daisuke Okanohara

This Japanese company created tremendous buzz for using deep learning in three primary industrial applications: transportation, manufacturing, and healthcare. They’ve applied their deep learning applications for image recognition, creating space for visual inspection in warehouse environments. They’re also applying their deep learning to the medical sphere to handle things like breast cancer diagnosis for high dimensional bio-marker data. They’re in the process of perfecting a patent-pending anomaly detection that works with negative data, rather than positive, answering the issue of poor sample sizes from reliable industrial machinery.

4. Evo

Co-Founders: Nataly Bendersky Shalem, Michael Shalyt

Evo uses AI to automate a frustrating and often slow part of the product development process, user testing. Bots use regression testing to make sure everything that worked yesterday still works today and deep reinforcement style learning to mimic human testers. The company works with you to develop testing suited to your particular product, and the bots explore the environment learning as they go. If bots come up against a test they don’t understand, the company utilizes a hybrid approach.

5. Vanido

Co-Founders: Himanshu Singh, Varsha Ashok

Vanido teaches you to sing. The app is a brilliant example of AI’s reach into just about every facet of our lives. For people who’ve always wanted to improve their pitch, breathing technique, range, ear, and vocal consistency. Human singing coaches can be very expensive, but the team developed unique software that provides not just lessons but feedback based on your unique vocal range and past performance. The app is free, and lessons are delivered in bite-sized chunks, and you receive real-time feedback on pitch and timing, helping your ear adjust.

6. Dyneti

Co-Founders: Julie Zheng, Lena Evans

Dyneti is a card-scanner SDK that reduces fraud and improves conversion. The deep learning model works on any type of card including ones with flat numbers or numbers on the back, requiring just a few lines of code to get up and running, and has low latency, reducing payment input by time by 65%. It integrates directly with your existing payment system, flagging potential fraud, validating cards, and populating fields accurately. It’s the first product offering from Dyneti.

7. Centiment

Co-founders: Micah Brown, Tim Wilson

Centiment aims to transform marketing and advertising using a combination of AI and proprietary neuro data mixed with human consultants to reimagine marketing into a diverse and purpose-driven content strategy. Their learning helps make campaigns more emotionally intelligent. In fact, user emotion is the primary driver behind their campaigns. The team is pushing the boundaries of neuro data, creating a customer experience that spurs acquisition based on those emotional markers. They’re combining neuro data with IBM’s Watson for results that move beyond faceless focus groups and measure human thought.

8. IntelAgree

Co-Creators: CoLabs + AgileThought

Not quite a startup but a unique software incubator working with leads within the industry, CoLabs, and AgileThought’s creation is an AI-powered contract repository, helping businesses speed up contracts and get to “yes” faster. The teams reimagined one of the pillars of the business world, contracts, and built a platform designed to take the guesswork and frustration out. The software integrates with a company’s existing infrastructure and feels custom, allowing a range of businesses to compete with enterprise organizations.

9. VidaDo

Founder: Kuang Chen

VidaDo uses AI solutions to digitize data otherwise unavailable in the virtual world. It’s the only enterprise solution available for companies needing to convert legacy documents, extracting data otherwise unavailable. Companies can set custom thresholds for verification and allows for first and third party data validation against the largest human verified dataset around. It reads hard to decipher documents including handwritten notes and low-DPI scans.

10. Dandelion

Co-Founders: Kathy Hanun, James Quazi

Dandelion is an all in one heating and cooling solution that combines AI with geothermal temperature regulation to revolutionize the way you manage your house. Users install the heat pump, and the unit moves heat away from your home during the summer to store in the underground unit, moving it back in the winter when you need it. It uses predictive maintenance and monitoring to troubleshoot problems and offer insights that translate to more savings each year.
