ODSC events for 2019 are all wrapped up, and now it’s time to start thinking and planning for the next decade. Our first major event of 2020 will be ODSC East April 13–17 in Boston, MA, and we’re excited to announce the first fifty speakers out of 280+ schedule.

ODSC Keynote: Tom M. Mitchell, PhD
Professor & Interim Dean, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University
Tom Mitchell is known as the “Father of Machine Learning” having founded the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University and led it as Department Head for its first 10 years, teaching many famous students including Andrew Ng. He is a world-renowned researcher in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cognitive neuroscience. Currently, he serves as the Interim Dean of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon.
Training Instructor: Dr. Jon Krohn
Chief Data Scientist, Author of Deep Learning Illustrated, untapt
Jon Krohn is Chief Data Scientist at the machine learning company untapt. He is a leading deep learning author and accomplished instructor with an acclaimed series of tutorials published by Addison-Wesley, including Deep Learning with TensorFlow and Deep Learning for Natural Language Processing. He guest lectures at Columbia University. He holds a doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Oxford and, since 2010, has been publishing on machine learning in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Principal Data Scientist, Booz Allen Hamilton
One of the data sciences foremost thought leaders, Dr. Kirk Borne is the Principal Data Scientist and an Executive Advisor at global technology and consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. In those roles, he focuses on applications of data science, data management, machine learning, AI, and modeling across a wide variety of disciplines. He also provides training and mentoring to executives and data scientists within numerous external organizations, industries, agencies, and partners in the use of large data repositories and machine learning for discovery, decision support, and innovation.
Business Talk: Sherri Rose, PhD
Faculty, Harvard Medical School
Sherri Rose, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of the Health Policy Data Science Lab. Broadly, her methodological research focuses on statistical machine learning. Within health policy, Dr. Rose currently works on fairness for risk adjustment formulas and the generalizability of computational health economics algorithms. She has published interdisciplinary projects across varied outlets, including Biometrics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Health Economics, Health Affairs, and New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Rose is the Co-Editor of Biostatistics and Chair-Elect of the American Statistical Association’s Biometrics Section.
Announcing Ai x Summit Speakers!
We’re also holding the Ai x Summit April 14–17. Formerly known as Accelerate AI, the Ai x Summit will focus on specific industry and business verticals, such as AI for Finance, AI for Healthcare, AI for Retail, and more. This event is designed for decision-makers who are ready to use AI to transform their organization and harness the power of AI to push forward. Ai x Keynote: Cassie Kozyrkov, PhD
Chief Decision Scientist, Google
As Chief Decision Scientist at Google Cloud, Cassie Kozyrkov advises leadership teams on the decision process, AI strategy, and building data-driven organizations. She is the innovator behind bringing the practice of Decision Intelligence to Google, personally training over 15,000 Googlers. Prior to joining Google, Cassie worked as a data scientist and consultant. She holds degrees in mathematical statistics, economics, psychology, and neuroscience.
Ai x Keynote: Mike Stonebraker, PhD
A.M. Turing Award Laureate, Professor, Co-founder, MIT CSAIL, Tamr
Dr. Stonebraker has been a pioneer of database research and technology for more than forty years. He was the main architect of the INGRES relational DBMS, and the object-relational DBMS, POSTGRES. These prototypes were developed at the University of California at Berkeley where Stonebraker was a Professor of Computer Science for twenty-five years. More recently at MIT, he was a co-architect of the Aurora/Borealis stream processing engine, the C-Store column-oriented DBMS, the H-Store transaction processing engine, the SciDB array DBMS, and the Data Tamer data curation system. Presently, he serves as Chief Technology Officer of Paradigm4 and Tamr, Inc.
Ai x Talk: Mark Weber
Applied Research Scientist, MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab
Mark Weber is an applied researcher and operations lead at the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, a community of over 200 scientists from MIT and IBM Research focused on fundamental advancements in AI. As the token MBA in the group, Mark leads internal strategy and operations as well as the business program for member companies co-investing in the lab, taking on the creative challenge of bridging fundamental science to real-world impact. Mark also leads the lab’s strategic engagements with IDEO and the International Monetary Fund. In his research, Mark is focused on developing and utilizing Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) for anti-money laundering.
