We’re happy to announce the keynote speakers for the upcoming ODSC Europe 2020 Virtual conference — five leaders in applied AI from Europe who will kick off the already expert lineup set to speak at the community-based event for data science practitioners and AI engineers.

These academics, innovators, and thought leaders are leading the charge in the development and proliferation of AI across the industry, and they’re all individuals worth knowing about so you can follow their research, learn about their companies’ latest developments, and see where AI is heading.

Conference Keynotes

Dr. Lora Aroyo
Research Scientist, Professor in Computer Science | Google, Columbia University

In addition to being a researcher at Google, Dr.Aroyo is also a governing board member at Europeana, Europe’s platform for digital cultural heritage with a mission to “transform the world with culture.” Previously, she was a visiting scholar at the Columbia Data Science Institute at Columbia University, and also the Chief of Science for the NY-based startup Tagasauris, which works on hybrid machine learning and human-assisted computing strategies. Her research interests include crowdsourcing & human computation, human-computer interaction, user-centric data science, recommender systems, and more.

Dr. Iain Brown
Head of Data Science | SAS UK&I

Dr. Iain Brown is the Head of Data Science for SAS UK&I and Adjunct Professor of Marketing Analytics at the University of Southampton. Over the past decade, he has worked across all sectors, providing thought leadership on the topics of Risk, AI, and Machine Learning, and their ethical applications. During his time at SAS, he has delivered numerous projects and driven innovation in the fields of AI and the corresponding fields of machine learning, deep learning, and natural language understanding.

Track Keynotes

Luc De Raedt, PhD
Director, Professor | Leuven.AI | KU Leuven

Prof. Dr. Luc De Raedt is currently Director of Leuven.AI, the KU Leuven Institute for AI, full professor of Computer Science at KU Leuven, and guest professor at Örebro University (Sweden) at the Center for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems in the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program. Today, he is working on the next generation of programming languages, which can automatically learn from data, on combining probabilistic and logical reasoning and learning, on the automation of (data) science, and on verifying learning artificial intelligence systems and robotics. He is now also focusing on integrating the probabilistic logics with neural networks and wants to apply these to reinforcement learning as well as program induction.

John Shawe-Taylor, PhD
Chair in AI, Professor | CSML, University College London

John S Shawe-Taylor is a professor at University College London (UK) where he is the Director of the Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML). His main research area is Statistical Learning Theory, but his contributions range from Neural Networks, to Machine Learning, to Graph Theory. He has helped to drive a fundamental rebirth in the field of machine learning, with applications in novel domains including computer vision, document classification, and applications in biology and medicine focussed on brain scans, immunity, and proteome analysis.

Featured Speaker

Afsaneh Asaei, PhD
Head of Artificial Intelligence / Digital Product School | UnternehmerTUM

Afsaneh has more than 18 years of professional experience in applied Artificial Intelligence R&D. She completed her Ph.D. at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) on the robustness of machine learning and pattern recognition in commercial applications. Her contributions were recognized by community awards and granted several million Euros of Swiss, European & American funding. At Digital Product School of UnternehmerTUM, she supports her teams with exploiting the AI capabilities, their feasibility, and risks for problem-solution fits.
