ODSC Europe is just weeks away, coming up on September 5th & 6th, and we are hard at work on our lineup of leading experts and world-class AI instructors. And we couldn’t be more excited to announce the first of our distinguished Keynote and Track Keynote Speakers. Check them out below.
Keynote Speakers
Laura Weidinger
Senior Research Scientist | Google Deepmind
Laura Weidinger is a Staff Research Scientist at Google DeepMind. There she leads research on ethics and safety evaluation of AI systems, with a focus on taxonomising, measuring, and mitigating risks from generative AI systems and on developing novel evaluation approaches for AI.
In her Keynote Talk, “Safety Evaluation of Generative AI”, Laura will explore how we understand “safe” when it comes to AI systems. She will explore the different approaches to measuring and evaluating the ethical and social risks of generative AI, including the key gaps and possible ways forward.
Michael Wooldridge, PhD
Professor of Computer Science | University of Oxford
Michael’s extensive career spans more than 30 years of AI research and 400 scientific articles, including 9 books, on the subject.
In addition to being a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, he is also a Senior Research Fellow at Hertford College, a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Association for the Advancement of AI (AAAI), and the European Association for AI (EurAI). From 2014–16, he was President of the European Association for AI, and from 2015–17 he was President of the International Joint Conference on AI (IJCAI).
Michael is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lovelace Medal from the British Computer Society (2020), the ACM Autonomous Agents Research Award (2006), the AAAI/EAAI Outstanding Educator Award (2021), and the Distinguished Service Award from the European Association for AI (2023).
His Keynote talk, “Multi-agent Systems in the Era of LLMs: Progress and Prospects”, will address his primary area of interest, multiagent systems.
The talk will explore the ways the rise of LLM-powered agent frameworks has transformed the ecosystem of multiagent systems, with a particular focus on the main approaches, opportunities, and outstanding challenges for multi-agent systems.
Track Keynote Speaker
Dr. Laura Gilbert
Director, Data Science & Analytics, Director, Incubator for Artificial Intelligence (i.AI) in Downing Street | Joint Chief Analyst for the Cabinet Office
In her current role, Laura and her team provide fast-paced modeling and analysis to support policy making and delivery, deliver expert data and AI solutions into public services, and run a radical transformation agenda promoting the better use of evidence, data, and technology in government decision-making.
Laura also created and currently spearheads a broader program of innovation, digitization, and radical upskilling in central government called Evidence House. She holds a doctorate in Particle Physics and Computing, is a Visiting Professor at LSE, and holds fellowships at the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Analytics.
Her previous roles include positions in defense intelligence, quantitative finance, and CTO of a medical technologies company, Rescon, bringing it from start-up to SMT to acquisition.
