ChatGPT Passes Another Test — Amazon’s Software Interview Questions
It seems that OpenAI’s ChatGPT is on a roll when it comes to tests. Recently, the popular AI was able to pass an MBA examination, surprising some. Now, ChatGPT has answered the technical interview questions correctly for a software position at Amazon according to Business Insider. This information comes from internal Slack messages within the company. According to the discussion, the chatbot was able to correctly answer some of Amazon’s interview questions for a software coding position. Though not spotlessly.
That’s because according to employee discussions, the code provided by ChatGPT wasn’t efficient and had some “buggy” implementation. Though according to a machine learning engineer, it was able to improve code while providing correct solutions. Upon seeing the results, another employee stated that they were “honestly impressed.” They further went on to say, “I’m both scared and excited to see what impact this will have on the way that we conduct coding interviews.”
These aren’t newfound fears. Since ChatGPT’s public explosion, educators have sounded the alarm about the program’s ability to create content ready for students to turn in. A few well-placed questions and the chatbot can turn around some amazing results. This is leaving many in academia concerned about students opting to turn in AI-generated work. But something interesting also came up in those Slack messages. It seems that this isn’t the first time Amazon employees have used the bot for work. In the same report, some have admitted to using ChatGPT as a “coding assistant.” Others have also mentioned using it to help in the creation of technical documentation.
For many workers, AI-powered tools are providing a leg up in multiple industries. For example, copywriters & content creators are using tools such as Anyword or Jasper. Software developers, as mentioned above, use the research capabilities of ChatGPT to help with coding issues. But it doesn’t mean everything is going smoothly. In the Slack conversation, an Amazon lawyer provided a warning. They said in part, “This is important because your inputs may be used as training data for a further iteration of ChatGPT, and we wouldn’t want its output to include or resemble our confidential information (and I’ve already seen instances where its output closely matches existing material).”
Companies and industries are attempting to adapt to living with powerful AI tools, though it looks like workers are already on the AI train. This seems to be, a self-fulfilling prophecy of what Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella said to workers. He asked workers to not fear AI, but to use AI as a means to enhance their own abilities.
