How to Ace the Data Science Interview in 2024
The fields of data science and artificial intelligence are dynamic ones, with needs changing constantly. With that comes the need for more experienced professionals to fill roles for companies looking to make use of their data, set up automation, or explore AI. In this podcast, we spoke with Nick Singh, Author of “Ace the Data Science Interview,” about what people can do in 2024 to stand out in a competitive job market and how to ace the interview aspect.
Nick Singh is an Ex-Facebook & Google Engineer turned best-selling author of Ace the Data Science Interview, and founder of SQL Interview Platform DataLemur.com. His career advice on LinkedIn has earned him over 150,000 followers, and he’s successfully provided career coaching to hundreds of people to land their dream job in data science.
In the interview, we discussed a few major topics — how to stand out among others in a competitive field, what’s different with all of the newer job titles available, how to ace the data science job interview, and how to follow up after an interview.
One thing that Nick pointed out in particular was the importance of having a strong portfolio. He noted that while a resume and experience can be helpful to get you the interview in the first place, being able to showcase what you can do with a real-world case study can be a difference maker. Think of it this way; if you’re an employer, you’d want to be able to see that a candidate can do exactly what the job entails in real-time, proving that they can get the job done.
