LinkedIn Names Data Science & AI as In-Demand Jobs for 2021
Since March 2020, the US has seen historic job loss as industries collapsed under the stresses of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not every industry has been affected in the same way. Some industries, in fact, have seen incredible growth. Identifying these industries is particularly important for current job seekers.
Since its launch in 2003, LinkedIn has helped hundreds of thousands of professionals make connections and discover new careers. Using the experience and knowledge it’s gained over almost two decades, the site recently released the LinkedIn 2021 jobs report on which industries have been ramping up hiring during the pandemic.
To identify these industries, LinkedIn looked at the year-on-year growth rates of over 15,000 job titles from April 2020 to October 2020. They then organized the job titles into larger trends, including up to 25 titles in each category. In this report, a larger variety of industries are identified, including jobs in data science and AI.
Data Science Jobs
Since 2019, hiring in the data science industry has increased by 46%. To deal with the increased uncertainty caused by the global pandemic, it’s possible that businesses had a greater need for employees who can derive insights from data.
According to LinkedIn’s report, most of the jobs are currently located in New York City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco and are looking for hires with skills in data visualization, TensorFlow, and statistical modeling.
AI Jobs
The already growing AI industry was only further buoyed by the pandemic. To protect their business from unanticipated challenges or responded to increased demand, organizations began to rely even more heavily on AI. Since 2019 hiring has grown by 32%.
Available jobs mentioned in the LinkedIn 2021 jobs report are currently mostly located in Seattle, San Francisco, and New York City, and desired skills include Python, C++, and Amazon Web Services.
