Meta AI Has Introduced Llama 3
Meta AI has introduced Llama 3 to the world today through a new blog post by the company. Meta is calling Llama 3, the Most Capable Openly Available LLM to Date. Its release marks a significant advancement over its predecessor with state-of-the-art capabilities and increased efficiency.
According to Meta, Llama 3 will soon be accessible on major platforms such as AWS, Databricks, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. It supports a wide array of hardware from leading manufacturers like AMD and NVIDIA, ensuring versatile and robust deployment options.
At the heart of Llama 3 are the new models with 8B and 70B parameters, which, according to the company, demonstrate significant improvements in reasoning and code generation, aligning with industry benchmarks for advanced performance.
From the blog, “To effectively leverage our pretraining data in Llama 3 models, we put substantial effort into scaling up pretraining. Specifically, we have developed a series of detailed scaling laws for downstream benchmark evaluations. These scaling laws enable us to select an optimal data mix and to make informed decisions on how to best use our training compute.“.
The launch of Llama 3 includes tools like Llama Guard 2 and Code Shield, aimed at enhancing trust and safety in AI deployments: “With this release, we’re providing new trust and safety tools including updated components with both Llama Guard 2 and Cybersec Eval 2, and the introduction of Code Shield — an inference time guardrail for filtering insecure code produced by LLMs.“.
The blog also mentions that Meta plans to introduce models that support multilingual and multimodal functionalities, extending the model’s utility across more diverse applications. This is also in line with its open source philosophy, Meta encourages the community to engage with Llama 3.
For those who enjoy working with AI agents, Llama 3 is also powering Meta AI, a leading AI assistant that enhances user experiences across Meta’s platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta is encouraging users to explore the capabilities of Meta AI to enhance their productivity and creativity.
