Microsoft Goes All in With AI Through Copilot in Latest Windows Update
Beginning this week, Microsoft’s Copilot will begin to roll out in its early form as part of a new and free update to the Windows 11 operating system according to a post from the company. With this upgrade, comes a significant number of new features and upgrades powered by AI.
According to the post, the upgrade isn’t centered on a specific industry or group as it will “meet the everyday needs of people and businesses.” This upgrade will be seen in Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365 through the fall season and will bring with it over 150 features.
For enterprise customers, the Microsoft 365 Copilot will be generally available on November 1st of this year. With it comes a new AI assistant that will look to improve the productivity of those using the assistant.
As part of the new Copilot rollout, Microsoft will also be introducing a series of new Surface devices that are designed specifically with AI in mind. Currently, Copilot will be under preview and will allow users to seamlessly integrate these new features into their existing Windows 11 OS devices.
If you’re currently a user of Windows 11, you’ll be able to find Copilot via the taskbar or with the Win+C keyboard shortcut. But it’s not just features and upgrades to existing programs such as Paint which will be given the AI facelift. Bing and Edge will also see AI-powered upgrades to allow for greater immersive web experiences.
So far there isn’t a date for the rollout, many users have already begun using some features through the Bing App on their smartphones, mobile devices, and their computers. One interesting feature will be user chat histories used to provide more personalized assistance and help.
This of course also means, personalized answers based on these chat histories. Bing can track your preferred sports and TV shows and help you keep up on player stats or show availability while traveling according to the company’s post.
If the idea of your chat history being used to deliver personalized user experience isn’t your cup of tea, Microsoft has allowed there to be an opt-out feature in the Bing settings which users can toggle on and off.
Not to outdo themselves, part of this massive AI rollout will see Microsoft adding Copilot in Microsoft Shopping. According to the company, users can use either Edge or Bing to shop more effectively online through traitored results.
An interesting feature is the ability for Bing to ask additional questions and learn more about a particular item for the user which in turn can be used to provide even more traitored recommendations based on user history. This would be great, especially for users hoping to find the best deals on products for the upcoming shopping season.
