In a special event on May 20 at their new campus, Microsoft introduced a category of Windows PCs: Copilot+ PCs via a blog post the company shared. These advanced devices promise to transform the computing landscape with their unprecedented speed, intelligence, and AI capabilities.

Microsoft is leaning hard on these new computers. They’re claiming that the Copilot+ PCs are the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever built. They are equipped with silicon capable of an astounding 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second) and all-day battery life with a new level of integration of advanced AI models for users.

They will also include features like Recall, which allows users to easily find and remember content on their PC, and Cocreator, which enables near real-time AI image generation and refinement directly on the device.

It’s clear that the launch marks the start of Microsoft’s major push into integrating AI further into its suite of services. We saw this with its upgrade of the Microsoft Office environment with AI capabilities and its latest version of Bing released last year.

But there are other features the company shared, especially for productivity-focused users. The Copilot+ PCs come with features like Screenray for object recognition and suggested actions, enhancing productivity and ease of use. Privacy and control are important, with features like Recall ensuring that snapshots remain local to the device and can be managed or deleted as desired.

For Creative professionals, they will appreciate the AI-powered image creation and editing tools built into Windows. There is also the Cocreator feature which combines ink strokes with text prompts to create and iterate on images, making it easier than ever to bring creative ideas to life.

Finally, there is the Live Captions feature. According to the company, it enhances communication by providing real-time translations of any audio passing through the PC into English captions. This capability is powered by the Neural Processing Units (NPUs) in Copilot+ PCs, ensuring accessibility and understanding across different languages.

The first wave of Copilot+ PCs will be available starting June 18. Here is the video to watch the on-demand recording of the May 20 event. Below is a quick intro video provided by the company:
