OpenAI Releases GPT Store
Just two months after the announcement of customizable ChatGPTs, over 3 million custom versions were created by users. This has led to the rollout of the GPT Store, which is now accessible to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users.
What makes this repository interesting, is that it’s a vibrant marketplace of ideas and tools. Here, users can explore a wide array of GPTs, crafted by both partners and the community. The GPT Store showcases popular and trending GPTs across diverse categories such as DALL·E, writing, research, programming, education, and lifestyle.
One of the hopes of this new storefront is to help encourage users to discover and integrate these tools into their workflows. So to keep users from getting lost, the GPT Store will feature new and impactful GPTs weekly.
Among the initial highlights are:
- Personalized trail recommendations from AllTrails
- Academic research synthesis with Consensus, accessing over 200M papers
- Khan Academy’s Code Tutor for expanding coding skills
- A tool for book recommendations
- The CK-12 Flexi AI tutor for learning math and science
- Canva for designing presentations and social media posts
- And many others.
Another aspect of this storefront that may interest GPT creators is the ability to share and monetize their custom GPTs. OpenAI plans to launch a GPT builder revenue program in Q1 of 2024. US builders will have the opportunity to earn based on user engagement with their GPTs, with the expansion of the program outside the United States later in 2024.
But knowledge of Python or other coding skills isn’t required. That’s because OpenAI wants to make creating and sharing your own GPT is made simple and accessible through the use of no-code prompt engineering. A skill that will likely grow in need as generative AI continues to scale across domains/industries.
Of course, users have to adhere to the latest usage policies and brand guidelines set forth by OpenAI. To help with this, there is a new review system that includes both human and automated processes. This system aims to ensure that all GPTs meet quality and safety standards.
Finally, the announcement of the ChatGPT Team, a plan that brings these innovations to teams of all sizes. Team customers gain access to a private section of the GPT Store, featuring GPTs securely published to their workspace.
For Enterprise customers, the GPT Store will offer enhanced admin controls, including management of internal and external GPT usage, ensuring both security and flexibility.
