OpenAI is gearing up to release its latest AI model, named Strawberry, within the next two weeks. The new model, reported by Seeking Alpha on September 10, promises to bring unprecedented capabilities in solving complex mathematical problems and demonstrating a level of reasoning that mimics human thought processes.

So what is Strawberry?

Strawberry is not just another iteration of existing AI technology; it represents a significant leap forward in advanced reasoning capabilities. The model is designed to improve how AI systems understand and process complex information, marking it as OpenAI’s next-generation AI product.

As detailed in a report from July, Strawberry aims to push the boundaries of AI performance, enhancing the reasoning skills of AI models to tackle questions and problems they have never encountered before.

“OpenAI’s pursuit of human-level reasoning isn’t just a technological marvel; it’s a narrative of pushing boundaries and sparking new possibilities in every sector,” said Ghazenfer Mansoor, founder and CEO of Technology Rivers.

In an interview with PYMNTS on July 16. “In business, AI can dramatically change how supply chains are managed, forecast market trends with great accuracy, and make customer experiences very personal on a big scale.”.

Growing User Base and Expanding Business Products

The announcement of Strawberry’s release comes at a time of rapid growth for OpenAI. A year after launching its first business product, the company now boasts over 1 million paying business users, up from 600,000 in April.

This user base includes subscribers to ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Team, and ChatGPT Edu — products launched in August 2023, January, and May, respectively. These offerings are helping businesses and educational institutions optimize their operations and innovate in ways previously unimaginable.

From reshaping how students learn, to optimizing patient care and transforming how governments serve their citizens, AI is redefining how people work,” said OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap in a statement to PYMNTS on September 5. “We’re proud to help over a million paying business users work more productively, streamline operations and uncover new opportunities for innovation.”

Investment and Future Prospects

As OpenAI prepares for the launch of Strawberry, the company is reportedly looking to raise several billion dollars in a funding round that could value it at over $100 billion. This move underscores the substantial investment required to stay at the forefront of AI development.

The company has already spent over $100 million on developing its GPT-4 model and is expected to invest even more in the ongoing development of Strawberry. With the release of Strawberry, OpenAI is poised to set new benchmarks in the AI industry, driving innovation across various sectors.

As AI technology continues to evolve, OpenAI’s commitment to enhancing reasoning and complex problem-solving capabilities stands to reshape not just technology but also the broader landscape of how we interact with and utilize artificial intelligence.

The upcoming launch of Strawberry represents another step forward in OpenAI’s mission to create powerful and versatile AI models that can think, reason, and solve problems in ways that were once thought impossible.
