Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., TSMC for short, is poised to announce third-quarter revenues of $23.096 billion. This marks a 34% year-over-year increase, driven by the global boom in AI and the ongoing push by nations to secure their semiconductor supply chains.

Based on analyst consensus, this estimate surpasses the $17.280 billion reported for the same period last year. The company has guided revenue expectations between $22.4 billion and $23.2 billion for Q3 2024.

The surge in revenue aligns with rising demand for AI chips, especially from tech giants like Nvidia and Apple, both of which are significant TSMC clients. The global semiconductor shortage has prompted countries to diversify their semiconductor supply chains, minimizing reliance on Asian markets, particularly China.

September Growth Signals Strong Performance

In a recent announcement, TSMC revealed an impressive 39.6% increase in September sales, totaling 251.87 billion Taiwanese dollars ($7.82 billion). This strong performance supports the company’s Q3 projections and underscores the demand for TSMC’s advanced AI chips, which power cutting-edge technologies across multiple industries.

Over the past 12 months, TSMC’s stock has surged by more than 109%, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s future. Global funds have poured approximately $29.5 billion into the Taiwan Stock Exchange from January to September, despite $16.9 billion in share sales, Bloomberg reports.

This capital inflow signals ample liquidity for continued investments in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, with TSMC as a clear beneficiary.

Global Expansion Plans to Meet AI Demand

To meet the growing global demand for semiconductors, particularly AI chips, TSMC is expanding its geographical footprint. The company has committed more than $65 billion to build three new semiconductor plants in Arizona, U.S.

In addition, TSMC is exploring further expansions in Japan and Germany. Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Cheng-wen emphasized the critical role of AI in TSMC’s future, particularly its partnership with Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD).

Wu also hinted at the company’s potential plans for expanding its operations in Europe, signaling long-term growth opportunities with AI chips becoming a key driver of technological innovation.

This diversified strategy positions the company to capitalize on future growth in the semiconductor industry.

Strategic Importance of TSMC’s Role

TSMC’s AI chip production is integral to the operations of NVIDIA and Apple, both of which rely on the company for critical components. As AI technologies, including machine learning and deep learning applications, continue to proliferate across industries, TSMC’s role in supplying the necessary hardware becomes increasingly vital.
